People born in priority hepatitis B endemic countries and arrived in Australia in the last 10 years can access the free vaccines.

Priority countries include China, Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Thailand, South Korea, Myanmar (Burma), Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Cambodia.

Other groups include all refugees and humanitarian entrants including asylum seekers, all people under 20 years of age, all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people living with conditions such as HIV or hepatitis C.

“Hepatitis B is a vaccine-preventable disease and completing the three doses of vaccine gives you life-long protection,”  said Meg Perrier, Hepatitis B Community Mobilisation Officer.

“People not fully immunised are at risk and chronic hepatitis B is a serious health issue which can hurt your liver and even lead to liver cancer and death.

“So, protect yourself and your family by getting the hepatitis B vaccine,” said Meg.

Talk to your doctor or nurse whether you or your family needs the hepatitis B vaccine.
