I am passionate about improving public health and as a leader of a municipality with one of the highest rates of viral hepatitis and I want to help change the statistics.

I am a mum with two kids, and Mayor of one of the most diverse cities in Australia. I am an accountant by profession who has left the corporate world to work for the betterment of the community. As Mayor of Brimbank, I was shocked to learn of the levels of viral hepatitis.

Brimbank has some poor outcomes in terms of health statistIics and other social issues, but if I can help to improve people’s health and lives, I will.

In Brimbank, there are cultural and language barriers for many of our residents. Many don’t understand the risks, the signs and the symptoms of viral hepatitis and herein lies the problem.

Many of our residents have very limited knowledge about how they contract it and how it can be treated. But viral hepatitis is just one of many wider health issues affecting the community that leads to very poor health outcomes.
