New plans to eliminate the burden of hepatitis B and C in Victoria

Victorian government launches strategies to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030

The Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Mary-Anne Thomas launched the Victorian Hepatitis B and C Strategies for 2016 to 2020 at the StreetShot launch on World Hepatitis Day, July 28, 2016.

The strategies provide a road map for eliminating the burden of viral hepatitis in Victoria through prevention intiatives, more testing and treatment, and reducing stigma and discrimination of the disease.  The vision will see people with hepatitis, clinicians, researchers, community and peer workers come together to achieve ambitious targets and end new transmissions and unecessary deaths from hepatitis B and C.

Melanie Eagle said: “We are pleased that the Andrews Government shares our collective ambition to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health concern, and is committed to battling all stigma and discrimination associated with hepatitis.  We look forward to working with the Minister for Health to implement the strategies”.
