Volunteer of the Month, October 2018
I have completed my Bachelors in Public Health and have a keen interest in HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis specifically in women from different cultural backgrounds.
During my university time, I met with many people who were volunteers at various organisations which also inspired me to become a volunteer and help people. Since my course also focused on promoting health, I felt that working at a health promoting and educating organisation would be useful for me.
I once did a session with another volunteer in Fawkner for a women only group and I really enjoyed it. I got a chance to act as an educator and teach those females about hepatitis and some new vaccinations available. Because the ladies were actually engaging, it made this experience more memorable and fun.
If you are given the opportunity to become an educator for any of the sessions, do not hesitate. Although it may seem scary, it is quite fun! You are not only educating others, you might learn a few things yourself.
